- Three sold-out concerts for the “BTS WORLD TOUR <ARIRANG> IN MEXICO CITY” attract 150,000 attendees
- Localized performances featuring lucha libre and Mexican street food captivate fans
- Estimated economic impact reaches $107.5 million, highlighting BTS’s cultural and diplomatic influence
Global superstar group BTS once again proved their worldwide influence by electrifying Mexico City during their long-awaited return after nearly 11 years.
According to BigHit Music, BTS held three concerts on May 7, 9, and 10 (local time) at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City as part of their “BTS WORLD TOUR <ARIRANG> IN MEXICO CITY.” The concerts marked the group’s first full-group solo performances in Mexico since 2015, ending a hiatus of nearly 11 years.
Demand for tickets was overwhelming from the very beginning. More than one million users reportedly flooded the ticketing site as soon as sales opened, resulting in all three shows selling out immediately.

Over the course of three nights, BTS captivated approximately 150,000 fans with their signature performances, synchronized choreography, and powerful stage presence. What particularly stood out was the group’s thoughtful incorporation of local Mexican culture into the concerts.
During an impromptu segment, the members performed “Airplane pt.2” with the line “We goin’ from Mexico City,” drawing explosive cheers from the audience.
In another memorable moment, dancers wearing traditional lucha libre masks appeared during the performance of “Aliens,” creating a uniquely Mexican atmosphere that resonated strongly with local fans.
Member V also became a trending topic on social media after being seen enjoying banderillas, a popular Mexican street snack, during the show. The clip quickly spread online, delighting fans around the world.
Toward the end of the concerts, the members expressed their gratitude in Spanish, saying they would never forget the passion that had spread throughout the city “from the Zócalo Plaza onward” and promising to return to Mexico again.
35,000 Fans Gather Outside the Venue
The excitement extended far beyond the stadium itself. Approximately 35,000 fans who were unable to secure tickets gathered around the venue, causing temporary road closures in nearby areas.
The Los Angeles Times highlighted the phenomenon, noting that “it is rare for a boy band to become a matter of international diplomacy.” Indeed, the impact of BTS’s visit reached beyond entertainment, with the President of Mexico officially inviting the group to the presidential office — a gesture reflecting their extraordinary cultural influence.
“BTSnomics” Generates Over $100 Million in Economic Impact
BTS’s concerts also delivered significant economic benefits to the city. The Mexico City Chamber of Commerce estimated the total economic impact of the concerts at approximately $107.5 million USD.
Among the major sectors benefiting from the event were:
- Accommodation: approximately $17 million USD
- Food, beverage, and related services: approximately $2.18 million USD
The concerts significantly boosted local businesses and tourism, once again demonstrating the enormous economic force often referred to as “BTSnomics.”
Next Stops: Stanford and Busan
After successfully wrapping up their Mexico City performances, BTS will continue their tour with concerts at Stanford Stadium in the United States on May 16, 17, and 19. Local transportation authorities (VTA) are reportedly preparing special transit routes for concertgoers in anticipation of large crowds.
The group will then head to Las Vegas before returning to South Korea for concerts at Busan Asiad Main Stadium on June 12 and 13. The second day of the Busan concert holds special significance, as June 13 marks BTS’s 13th debut anniversary.
